Walk On is extremely excited to offer a 3 horse camps this summer! It will be the only inclusive horse camp in the area. Participants with or without disabilities will be able to participate. This is the only horsemanship camp in the area offering an inclusive camp. Walk On is uniquely able to provide inclusivity, as our facility is equipped to accommodate any disability or need at the same level that participants without disability will have.
Inclusion offers many benefits including increased social interactions, enhanced skill acquisition, opportunities to master new skills, the chance to be the teacher, growth in social cognition and reduced fear of others who are different from ourselves, to name a few.
We built this program with the entire community in mind, and is open to anyone who would like to participate. We often get asked by our participant families for events where siblings can participate alongside our students, and this is a great opportunity for that! No horse experience is needed for our camps, all levels of expertise are welcome.
We are offering 3 different camps:
Pony Camp: June 27-29
This camp is for ages 3-7, our youngest participants! This camp will meet from 9:30-11:30 each morning, and is an introduction to the horse and horsemanship. We do ask that all participants in this camp have a helper with them, be it a parent or otherwise.
Horse Camp 1: July 11-14
This camp is for ages 8-12, and will take a deeper dive into what it means to establish a relationship with the horse. The camp will meet from 10-3. Our goal is to make learning fun and engaging. Walk On will provide a snack and drinks available throughout the day. We ask campers who can function independently to bring a helper with them.
Horse Camp 2: July 17-21
This camp is for ages 13-17, and will be our most in-depth camp. No horse knowledge is needed to attend, but all campers will definitely leave with it! The camp will meet from 10-3. Walk On will provide a snack and drinks available throughout the day. We ask campers who do not function independently to bring a helper with them.
The goal for all 3 camps is to nurture a love of horses in a safe and inclusive environment. We have a great curriculum for each camp session, tailored specifically for each age range. All campers will participate in grooming, tacking, and riding, along with other horse-adjacent activities (and even a craft or two, if the camper is interested!). All of our campers will receive a Walk On Summer Horse Camp 2017 t-shirt. If you would like more information about what exactly each camp entails, please contact our office or fill out the following form and we would love to speak with you!
