Volunteer With Us
Volunteers are the backbone of our equine assisted therapy riding and open doors to opportunity for Walk On participants.
Volunteers work with our staff to build a team that helps care for our horses, prepare the horses for the lesson, and assist the instructor during the lesson (by leading the horse or sidewalking with the rider) as well as a variety of additional barn tasks.
Program volunteers commit to a specific lesson or lessons for the duration of the 8 to 14 week session, which allows the same team of horse, rider, instructor, and volunteers to work together to achieve the rider’s goals.
Whether you are an enthusiast with many years of horse experience or come with no experience and would like to learn more, join us and share in the miracles that happen at Walk On. All program volunteers must be at least 13 years of age and must attend a volunteer orientation training session.
Walk On needs regular volunteers between the hours of:
Monday and Wednesday: 8:30 a.m. -11:30am
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: 2:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Saturdays: 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Walk On welcomes volunteers to help organize and execute fundraising events, community outreach, and more. We host three major fundraisers per year, workshops and participate in many community events. This is a great volunteer opportunity for those who want to get involved but may not want to work directly with our horses, as well as those with scheduling challenges that make a weekly commitment difficult.

Walk On is pleased to be partnering with many of our area schools, religious organization as well as local companies as an approved 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.

Walk On is located in Barrington, Illinois, at the corner of Cuba and Hart Roads. The program takes place at our specially designed facility. Individualized programs for each student will be designed by the program director, a PATH Master Level Instructor and Occupational Therapist and other qualified instructors.
I’ve been volunteering at Walk On only for a little over a month and the experience has already been so rewarding. I love working with the kids, watching them improve and have fun, and feeling like I ‘m making a difference in their lives. I also enjoy working with their wonderful horses. All of the other volunteers and instructors are wonderful and make it so fun to volunteer. I always look forward to my volunteer days and am excited to continue volunteering for much longer.

I have greatly enjoyed Walk On over the last few years that I have volunteered here. It is a fun environment and there is nothing better than seeing the children become good riders. The leaders, volunteers and children are all wonderful and I am honored to have the privilege of working with them.

I’ve volunteered at Walk On for years and my experiences here have been so wonderful. I’ve learned so much, made friends and been deeply touched by volunteering with the children. My time at walk on has inspired me to pursue PATH certification, and I hope to continuing volunteering for many years to come.
