We love our volunteers.

Volunteers are the backbone of our program. They are involved at every level of our organization, from working in the barn to sitting on our board. Without volunteers, there is no Walk On! Areas of volunteer

Office Volunteers

Volunteers working in the office will be assisting with basic office tasks, such as filing, data entry, shredding etc. They are also involved in getting ready for events.

Barn

All barn volunteers are required to complete our new volunteer orientation. We currently host 2 a month. One takes place on a weekday evening and the other on a Saturday. Volunteer orientation lasts 2.5 hours and contains an immersive overview of what volunteering in our barn entails.

We have many fundraising opportunities throughout the year. Please contact us for more information!

Volunteers must be 15 years of age or older
Volunteers must commit to at least two hours per week, and to an entire 10 week long session at minimum. We ask that you take this commitment seriously. This is not a volunteer opportunity for those who only need a handful of hours.
If you cannot commit to a regular time slot, but still wish to be involved as a volunteer, there is an option to be an “on-call” volunteer. This allows us to contact you when we have unfilled volunteer spots on days when we have had volunteer cancellations. Please note that “on-call” volunteers are still required to attend a full 2.5 hr orientation.
No prior horse experience is needed; we will teach you everything you need to know.
All volunteers must be able to walk over uneven ground for at least an hour at a time.

When working in the barn, you get to be a jack of all trades. Barn volunteers will help with any number of things during an average shift, including but not limited to:

Assisting during lessons as either a horse leader or sidewalker (walking alongside a participant’’s horse to offer physical or emotional support during the lesson)
Doing barn chores: cleaning water buckets, sweeping the aisle, cleaning tack, etc.
Assisting with horse care: grooming, helping with feeding, preparing the horses for lessons, etc.

Please Note:Volunteers DO NOT RIDE OUR HORSES. Our horses are trained and exercised by staff members. If you are interested in riding our horses, the requirements for participants and the sign up for the participant waitlist can be accessed

Afternoon hours: 3 PM – 6 PM

Tuesdays:
Afternoon hours: 3 PM – 5:30 PM

Wednesdays:
Morning hours: 9 AM – 12:30 PM
Afternoon hours: 3 PM – 5:30 PM

Thursdays:
Afternoon hours: 3:30 PM – 6:30 PM

Saturdays:
Morning hours: 9 AM – 12 PM

*Occasional special programming will take place outside of these times

Once we have received and accepted your application, we will put you on our email list for orientations. Sign up for the one that works best for you
Once you have completed a volunteer orientation, you will be invited to sign up for a shift that works for your schedule, and you will begin volunteering.
